Independence DayIndependence Day in Lviv has a special meaning and ritual for all the inhabitants. The city pulsates to the incredible beat of this celebration. As the rhythm in the city changes, people look forward to attending large-scale street festivities, artistic exhibits, and most of all, the great, festive concert where Lvivers welcome and applaud the most popular and famous Ukrainian stars. It has become a tradition for many residents of Lviv to dress in “vyshyvanky” (traditional embroidered clothing). The city streets are resplendent with colorful shirts and blouses intricately embroidered with ancient symbols of prosperity and well-being. Such symbols take on a special significance on this particular day. Lviv August 24th 2009 |
